DSG | 700 water supply and sanitation projects will be built nationwide by LWUA | MANILA – The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) said on Tuesday that the government is working for the Patubig sa Buong Bayan at Mamamayan (PBBM) legacy projects to make sure that the whole country has an efficient, sustainable, and continuous water service.
During the Laging Handa public briefing, LWUA administrator Vicente Homer Revil said that the PBBM legacy projects would be a reaction to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for a “special focus” on improving water security in the Philippines.
Revil said that the heritage projects, which include 700 water supply projects and 40 sanitation projects, would be carried out until 2028.
“We have more than 700 water and sanitation projects for our people, and we plan to do this in the next five years, until 2028, to answer the call of our beloved President, President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr., to provide water security for our people.
Revil also said that they would run water districts that would give water to different cities and towns.
Revil said, “We will operate non-operational water districts to cover other cities and municipalities in our country because we only cover about 648 cities and municipalities right now.” “We will operate non-operational water districts to cover other cities and municipalities in our country because right now we only cover about 648 cities and municipalities in our country,” he said.
During his second State of the Nation Address, Marcos said that attempts to improve water security should be “cohesive, centralised, and systematic,” not “scattered.”
He said that the Water Resources Management Office (WRMO) was made to coordinate efforts to solve problems with water security and to handle the “difficult job of managing this most precious resource.”
The newly formed WRMO combines the jobs of all agencies with water-related jobs so that the country’s water resources can be managed well and water security can be reached.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is in charge of the WRMO, which was set up by Executive Order 22.
Marcos said that he had already worked with Congress to pass a bill that would create the Department of Water Resource Management. This department would be in charge of making the necessary changes to policy and resources for managing all water resources, such as irrigation, sewage, and cleaning.
He said that this year, around PHP14.6 billion has been set aside for water supply projects, which will help people all over the country. (via PNA)
