DSWD supports PBBM’s push for digitalization to better serve the public

DSWD chief information officer, Assistant Secretary Julius Exequel Gorospe, on Friday (July 28) said this innovation drive is aimed to better serve the most vulnerable and marginalized in a timely manner. DSG | DSWD supports PBBM’s push for digitalization to better serve the public | MANILA – According to a high-ranking DSWD official, the department is now focused on using a digital platform to improve the way its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) programme is implemented.
This comes after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. made a strong promise to “fully embrace” digitalization in his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday in order to improve public service, make conducting business easier, and combat graft and corruption.
The DSWD’s chief information officer, Assistant Secretary Julius Exequel Gorospe, stated that this innovation aims to streamline the social protection programme by ensuring that digital interventions are integrated into the agency’s operations.
The DSWD and the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore of India (IIIT-B) inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in June of last year with the goal of integrating the open-source government-to-person (OpenG2P) service delivery platform’s capabilities into the DSWD’s AICS programme implementation.
Through the use of the PhilSys Identification Card (PhilID), the government can deliver services that are focused on the needs of the citizen utilising the online platform technology known as OpenG2P, which was created by IIIT-B.
With the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore, we are ecstatic to begin this collaborative adventure, Gorospe remarked.
He asserted that incorporating the platform within the AICS programme would create a more inclusive, secure, and empowering service for people in need, ensuring that help quickly reaches the most vulnerable and marginalised.
The DSWD began the pilot testing of the OpenG2P integration to the AICS process for select clients at the DSWD Central Office from July 3 to July 7, in collaboration with IIIT-B, the World Bank, and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
158 AICS programme clients in total were enrolled in and used the OpenG2P platform during the pilot test utilising either a physical or digital Philsys ID as a means of verification and identification.
The clients went through a shortened procedure of requesting AICS, avoiding the long lineups, and were registered on the OpenG2P platform using their Philsys ID.
Together, we want to use technology to build a service delivery system that truly meets the many requirements of our population in times of need. Our dedication to staying at the forefront of innovation and providing better service to our fellow citizens is demonstrated by the integration of OpenG2P and PhilSys Authentication, according to Gorospe.
According to him, the AICS program’s adoption of OpenG2P and PhilSys Authentication will bring about hitherto unimaginable advantages for both service providers and beneficiaries.
Gorospe noted that the second stage of the pilot test, which would integrate digital payments into the AICS procedure, is scheduled for September.
As envisioned by the Marcos administration, the DSWD strives for a streamlined AICS process that has a secured identity verification for its clients and offers the best customer experience when delivering assistance to people in crisis situations. (via PNA)
